The GEM answer
The operation starts long before the start line.
GEM builds the medical and risk plan around the event itself. We assess the course, participant profile, environmental exposure, communications capability, extraction routes, and escalation thresholds before the event begins. Clinical teams are then positioned where risk actually exists, not simply where access is easiest.

From planning room to finish line.
GEM is involved early, before routes, staffing and operations are locked. Medical, evacuation and risk become part of the event architecture, not a compliance layer added on top.

Before the event
Route, terrain and season reviewed. Participants screened. The medical plan and risk assessment the event runs on, written to hold up with insurer and regulator.

During the event
Clinical team across start, checkpoints and course. One medical director with authority to make the hard calls. Doctors, paramedics, nurses, equipped, in contact, around the clock.

When it goes wrong
Evacuation routes and escalation set before the start line. Local emergency services briefed. When something serious happens, the response is already written down.

Every GEM deployment runs under defined clinical governance: named clinical leads, evidence-based protocols, and a clinical review after every event.

Insurance and indemnity
GEM teams are fully insured and indemnified. Every medic holds personal medical indemnity specific to their role, profession and experience, reviewed to meet our standards of cover.

Professional registration
Every GEM clinician holds active professional registration with their regulatory body and is in good standing. GMC, RCN, RCPara.

Evidence-based practice
Medical plans follow current expedition and wilderness medicine guidance, written for the specific event, not adapted from a template, and revised to keep pace with best practice.
