Medical and risk systems for extreme endurance events and remote expeditions.
GEM plans, builds and operates medical capability for organisations working far beyond normal infrastructure.
About us
We built the medical capability we wanted as organisers.
GEM was created by people who run remote endurance events themselves. That matters. We understand the operational reality behind expedition medicine because we have carried the responsibility from the organiser side too. Our teams combine expedition and remote medicine, operational planning, evacuation management, clinical governance and endurance event operations. We do not arrive as external contractors trying to understand the event. We build systems that work inside it.
What we do
Four operations. One standard.
-
01
Endurance Events
Medical planning and operational delivery for ultra-endurance and multi-stage events in remote or complex environments.
-
02
Expeditions
Expedition medicine, governance and remote support for serious undertakings beyond conventional infrastructure.
-
03
Challenges
Integrated medical and risk support for elite athletes, record attempts and high-profile endurance projects.
-
04
TV & Film
Medical and risk teams for productions operating in remote, hostile or logistically demanding locations.
How we work
Treatment is only one part of the operation
Anyone can place medics on a course. The real work happens long before an incident occurs. GEM builds operational systems designed to reduce preventable risk, improve response speed, and manage escalation cleanly when conditions deteriorate.
The record
Proven in environments where small failures become serious quickly.
Environments GEM has operated across
- Multi-stage desert races
- Jungle ultra events
- Arctic endurance races
- High-altitude expeditions
- Remote productions
- World-record endurance projects
Clients include organisers, athletes and production teams operating in places where evacuation is difficult, infrastructure is limited, and operational resilience matters.
In their words
Adam Kimble
As a Race Director for the Beyond the Ultimate Global Race Series, participant safety is of the utmost importance. Our events take place in some of the most extreme and remote environments on the planet, so in the event of a serious medical emergency, we need to know that we can rely on our medical team to put us in the best position to successfully address those situations.
Global Expedition Medics continually provide the highest level of care for our race participants, which gives me great confidence in knowing that we will always deliver a safe event even in the most extreme situations.

Gary Chapman
As a competitor, ultra marathoning in remote adverse environments is the most amazing life experience. However, it is not without significant risk. Watching Exped Medics treat fellow competitors with serious issues left me blown away at their skill, compassion and ability to think on their feet - they became friends and a fundamental part of the race as they went above and beyond to get us to the finish line. All whilst maintaining a professional detachment to make the big race ending calls when needed.

The medical team for the BTU Desert Ultra in Namibia were phenomenal. They went above and beyond to ensure everyone was safe and well, often dealing with emergency situations. Exped Medics had a great deal of experience in expedition medicine dealing with anything from blister care to severe dehydration.
Their ability to adapt and care for others while also working in extreme conditions themselves was exceptional. We were always greeted with a smile, professionalism and positivity. I always felt like I was in good hands should an emergency situation arise.

Kris King
Global Expedition Medics are integral to our events and how we manage risk in extreme hostile environments.
Our team wouldn’t work with anyone else our runners cannot praise them highly enough.
Operational questions
Operational questions, answered clearly.
Planning for difficult environments starts with understanding how the operation actually works.
Yes. GEM provides integrated medical and risk operations for endurance events ranging from ultra-distance races to multi-stage expeditions. Support typically includes medical planning, checkpoint and on-course clinical teams, extraction capability, escalation protocols, communications planning, and clinical governance.
Talk to us before the event becomes difficult.
Medical, evacuation and risk planning works best designed into the event from the beginning, not added later as compliance.
